Personal Development Programme

The Pride Academy have introduced the Personal Development programme as a key curriculum area. The Five Pillars of Personal Development provide an overview of the skills covered which aim to enhance the curriculum offer and extend beyond the academic by providing broad and varied activities for students to participate in. To build on the success of enrichment sessions last year we have listened to student voice to increase the breadth of experiences that students are able to encounter.

Personal development sessions are part of the daily timetable where students can gain new skills and knowledge whilst fostering existing interests and passions. These sessions provide students with opportunities to engage positively with the wider community, support and promote their independence and become responsible active citizens who contribute positively to society.

Students can sign up for six-week periods and work towards achieving AQA unit awards, Duke of Edinburgh skills evidence and Sports Leaders/Dance Leaders qualifications in a range of diverse on- and off-site activities that seek to develop their social, physical, creative, digital, and cultural skills.

Personal development sessions aim to strengthen and develop peer relationships through collaborative learning experiences which bring students together irrespective of age, disability, race, or beliefs. As a whole school objective, we strive to develop student character, equipping them with skills to communicate effectively, reflect wisely, learn eagerly, and behave with integrity. Sessions will promote students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development as well as building an awareness of Fundamental British Values such as democracy, individual liberty, rule of law, respect and tolerance. Physical development recognises the importance of leading healthy and active lives and provides students with tools to understand how to maintain positive physical and mental wellbeing.

Personal Development sessions are offered to all students in years 7 -13 with a primary aim to build independence, resilience and character. Content is delivered through personalised instruction that addresses students’ visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic learning styles, serving to motivate and inspire students to immerse themselves in their chosen activities.

Our curriculum principles are woven into the extensive personal development offer, ensuring that sessions contribute to a broad and ambitious, personalised, culturally rich curriculum that serves to prepare students for adulthood.
