Students Explore Careers at Hilton Heathrow Terminal 4

Students recently enjoyed a hands-on careers experience at the Hilton London Heathrow Airport Terminal 4 during a special “takeover day” designed to give them a real insight into working in the hospitality industry. Throughout the day, students took part in a range of practical activities across the hotel, helping them explore the wide variety of career opportunities available within hotels and hospitality.

One of the first challenges was learning how to make a bed “the Hilton way”. Something students quickly discovered was much trickier than it looked. Attention to detail, presentation and teamwork were all key skills they experienced first-hand.

Students also spent time outside with planting and gardening tasks, making the most of the sunny weather while learning more about maintaining professional outdoor spaces and creating a welcoming environment for guests.

Another highlight of the day was mocktail making, where students enjoyed creating and serving their own drinks before getting to taste the finished results themselves. They also practised setting formal dinner tables, carefully learning where each piece of cutlery and tableware should be placed and why presentation is such an important part of the guest experience.

To finish the day, students tried their hand at towel art, creating decorative towel displays often seen in hotels around the world.

The visit gave students a valuable opportunity to experience the fast-paced and varied nature of the hospitality sector while building confidence, communication skills and independence in a real working environment.

Staff said students were incredibly appreciative of the opportunity and gained a much greater understanding of the different roles involved in running a successful hotel.
